Emboldened by the lit lamp

Image
I woke up even before the morning bell called me, followed by a quick shower after which I lit the lamp and prayed for a promising day. I reported to the kitchen by 5:30 sharp, kept a cup of rice to cook in the pressure cooker, fried onion, ginger and tomato allowed it to cool. The kitchen started to fill with aroma of flavours. The cooled mixture went to the mixer jar along with some soaked cashew nuts and I started to grind them imagining the silky gravy. Suddenly the cooker exploded, with fear I jumped out. The gravy splashed all over the kitchen wall which was cleaned by me the previous day. The cooker lid struck the coffee filter making it to spill completely on the clean floor -Dystopia! I walked towards the bus stop with a sad face and boarded the bus after ten minutes. The honking vehicles, dust, hungry stomach, disgusting traffic, anxiety everything added to what had happened in the morning. I stepped inside

The new dawn was brighter and more colorful!

On that day when he came home in the evening the door was locked. The very thought that popped in his mind was that she being the housewife why she had to go out at this time when she gets ample time in the day. He saw his neighbour who had come out, even before he asked anything the neighbour told him that his wife was hurt by the rusted iron string while painting the gate so she went to hospital a few minutes ago. He turned and observed the gate which was painted with colors. The rusted gate had turned into the beautiful entrance. He opened the door with the key that he had, went inside and sat on the sofa simply looking around him. The walls filled with colorful paintings, the pictures of them framed brilliantly. The colorful mats made with waste cloth, each door having colorful hangings made with used coconut shells. He went to the kitchen even the kitchen slab had a colorful dainty tray filled with colorful flowers. The thoughts of their yesteryears started rushing wi

The dusk was awaiting him when Subodh stepped out of the lab. The long traffics had given him enough time to check the offers that he could avail for his next bus journeys. He had got two coupon codes having 50% CASHBACK. Even in the terrible traffic he had smiled with joy. He reached home; the grill was latched while the main door was open. He entered the home. Sitting on the chair he was removing the socks while his flat mate Shankar entered the hall. He said to Shankar “if you are planning to go home the next weekend let me know. I have a coupon code with 50% CASHBACK!” Shankar replied “No, I ‘am not going home”. Subodh observed the pain in his voice when he continuously blinked his eyes to hide his tears. Subodh went inside after changing his clothes; he made some tea and placed them on the table. Shankar was found to be little lost. They conversed for some time, sipping hot tea after which Subodh realized that Shankar was deeply hurt by his mother’s death. Shankar’s father ha

It was a terrible day for him at his office. He was fired on that day which he had least expected. Evening when he came home and pressed the calling bell with his eyebrows knit, ground teeth, jaws clenched, each second was very long. The call was not answered till he banged the door very hard. He shouted at his wife as soon as she opened the door. Looking at his face, she understood that he was under stress. It was the first time he behaved in this way. He went to the room, sat on his bed with zero expression. The fan did not rotate as there was no power, even the inverter had drained.       The kid went to the father and told, ”Appa, chocolates…Appa”. He thought everything is going haywire and this kid is asking for chocolates. He was about to hit the child but somehow he controlled and asked curtly “What you need?”.The child with its eyes sparkling said “Appa, whenever I’m sad you give me these chocolates and kiss me...” in a honeyed voice and offered the chocolates, the fathe

This morning she was extremely happy as she had made perfect  stuffed pita pockets after several attempts.I was happy to see her dancing with joy.    Late in the afternoon she had sent me a text message which read "I will be home by 2:30pm".I knew that she wanted even me to be home by then.I reached home by 3:00pm.She had a bigger smile than always.I gave away my bag to her and settled in a chair under the fan.She sat before me and grinned.      She placed Hot samosas and Hot Tea on the table.I said her that even she had a surprise and gave her honey cake.We laughed making fun of each other. The silently changing color through the window reminded us of the time.          That night she said to me that she wanted to get drunk.I said her that the hang over may not allow her to concentrate on her office work. She jumped out of the chair , hopping she said that she had a leave the next day!     We both drank Cold Whisky followed by Pizza. I had also ordered Chocolava. The mome

The bus stop in the morning was full of people with their eyes eagerly awaiting the chariot which would carry them to their work palace. I stood along hoping to get a seat, I laughed within thinking how funny it is to get a single ticket while I carry my baby in my womb. The bus arrived, I managed to compete with the people. Holding the supporting rod with my tightened lips I boarded the bus. The day was promising as I could get a seat. My mind started thinking about the office duties, the customers - a few very obliging and a few thoughtless.Meanwhile the bus had reached the bank stop. I got down walked for a few minutes reached the bank. Sitting in my chair I sighed.     At sharp 10.A.M I started  the departmental work, the customer queries, account opening. Since it was  satellite branch it had only 3 staffs where only I knew the local language so most of the customers came to me regarding their queries. Since the bank remains close the next day ,there was a mad rush at the cash

There are a few places around us which are alluring. They hypnotize us making us to stay there for long time, simply admiring at it with a pleasant mind. One such place was Kaiwara, a small town which is just 65km away from Bengaluru city. It is known to people because of Saint Narayanappa who is popularly known as Kaiwara Thathaiah.        As a little boy he was influenced by his parents Kondappa-Muddamma who led a prayerful life. They worshipped Amara Nareyana. His father was a bangle seller which Thathayya had taken up after his marriage. He always had a desire to know the path of self realization. Though he was a bangle seller he neither had greed for making profit nor he asked for the actual cost. He only accepted money if they gave it to him. As said by Swami Vivekananda “When all the desires are given up the vey man becomes god”,young Narayanappa had given up all his desires. He left home, meditated in Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swami Cave and attained inner happiness, a never endi
